We designed a small trade mark so that on every page of the magazine we design the audience know that they are reading 'Tune'. This makes our magazine unique to any other magazine. We chose to use red black and white again to keep to the house style colour scheme and stereotypical approach.

Today we completed our photoshoot and we have aqquired all the photos we need for both magazine issues. It was a very sucesfull shoot because the photos look professional and are very good quality, this is due to the high megapixel camera and the photography lighting we used. We have approximately 50 photos so we are currently in the process of picking out the best quality photos for our magazine, we will also be taking int account when choosing our photos which ones will fit the page and styles of the magazine we are creating. We will then put them into Adobe Photoshop so we can tweak them to perfection by cropping, removing the background, adding shading and shadows, and also further adjusting the lighting effects. We personally think the photos look very affective, our raw photo analysis's should be added to the blog by Monday the 21st January 2013 and an explanation of how we have edited and tweaked our photos will also be added at a later date.

Barcode Placement Analysis

Barcode Placement Analysis by

Photoshoot Delay

Unfortunatley we have had to prospone our photoshoot because one of our 'artists' is off ill and therefore cannot have her photos taken. We could find someone else to have there photos taken and fill her place however we feel like she has the right style for the artist we are going to be writting about in our magazine. The photoshoot will now be conducted on the 18th January 2013 and we will definitley have the photos analyzed and up on the blog by Monday the 21st January 2013.

Photoshoot Planning

We are planning on creating a very professional shoot by using a white back drop, lighting and a good quality SLR camera. Our photography teacher has given us permission to use any equipment we need from his studio. As two of us are photography students, we should hopefully have a great advantage in the shoot. We are going into the shoot with a few basic ideas, but we will improvise and take more photos than we need. This means if we change our mind, we will have extra material to use, instead of having to do a re-run. The shoot will take place Friday 22nd 2010 approx 11am.

We are going to do a very profesional photoshoot by using a white drop background instead of using a natural background such as being outside. We feel this will create the best effect when the photos are mixed with text and other photos on various pages of our magazine. We also think that using a white drop background wll make the photos easy to edit in photo shop, it means that the backgrounds can be completely 'cut out' this should stop the photos looking irregular and ultimiltley stops them looking like theyve been over edited. Furthermore, we will be using proper photography lights and a high megapixel SLR camera to give us the best quality pictures possible, this should enable us to make our magazine look professional. Although neither of us our photography students we have been given hints and tips by other students doing photography and by photography teachers so that our photos look the best they can be and so they do not look armature.

We dont have an exact plan and will mainly use improvisation to obtain our images so they look more natural and relaxed rather than staged and fake. However, for both of our photos we do want something like the poses in the ones below,

Obviously we will be using a white backdrop, better lighting and a better camera quality when we do our actual photoshoot but this helps us to form an idea of what we want our photos to look like and how we want our 'artists' to pose.

We both like the idea of using a front on mid shot of our artists on the front cover so we both need a good one of that pose. Furthermore, a shot of the artist looking in the other direction to give the illusion that we have caught the artist 'off guard' this should also help to make the photos look real and not staged. We also need a photo of our female artist biting her lip, this should help to fit the target audience and to match the pop genre we are portraying, this is because it adds a hint of sexual content to our magazine and overall makes it more interesting.

We will also take many more photos than we actual need so that if we change our minds about a specific pose or a certain photo no longer fits the page of our magazine we can easily choose another one without having to re-shoot more photos. The shoot will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 16th January 2013 approx 12:30.

Masthead Fonts

Font

The font that we will be using for our double page spread article will be 'Trebuchet'. Size 11 is the size we will be considering, however depending on spacing and layout the size could change.

Questionaire and Research

This is a questionaire we created to find some starting figures and so we can start to think about how are magazines need to look and what it needs to contain. The pie chart highlights the results from question 5 so we can see more easily what 'freebee' we should advertise on the front of our magazine. Furthermore, the fact that the majoirty of peolpe said that they read magazines daily means that we need to create something that is unqiue and different, this should make our magazine stand out and stop it feeling like just another magazine.

A huge 11 out of 15 people said that they often use the contents page to see what they want to read about in the magazine. This is important because it tells us that our contents page should be very informative and should exlpain everything about the contents of the magazine so that it matches our target audience. Our contents page should also look creative and interesting so that people want to read it.

Another important response that we should mould are magazine around is that most people said that they want the magazine to include information about new bands and artists rather than music reviews or information on concerts. This means that our magazine should include information about new artists that have just been discovered as this will match the target audiene and match what they want to read about, if we didnt do this then our magazine would not be interesting and peopel would not read it.

Finally, most people replied that they would prefer a pop magazine so this just further proves that we have made the correct choice to create a pop genre magazine.

Magazine Name Mindmap

This is the mind map that we used to find the name for our magazine.

Sub-heading Font

This is the font that we will be using for our sub-headings on both the contents and double page spread. We chose this font because it contrasts well with the block, bold font of the magazine name and article text. The font is called Znikomit.

Our Target Audience

In our coursework we aim to construct our magazine cover successfully by considering the target audience which would include their age, gender, in what ways they listen and find out about music and what they want to find out.

Our genre of magazine we have chosen to focus on is pop. Therefore the average target age will be 14-21. This is because pop is the most common music genre around and the style and large demographic it provides for is recognized by a large audience. A lot of our research will therefore be more reliable and satisfying to produce. The context of our magazine will be understood by them and they will be interested to what is included in the magazine. This age group are likely to buy music and attend music events, so we could consider including context related to that.

We will consider both genders when producing our magazine as that automatically results in a wider audience. We feel that both males and female will be attracted to our magazine cover as we have considered the colour scheme to be equally appealing towards both genders. We feel this is a successful way of considering our audience genders.

Taking into consideration the audiences interest is important for us as we will then be aware of what to include in our magazine spreads. Mes en scene is also important within the spread as the audience are usually inspired by an artist’s image. This will be considered when creating the magazine spread, especially on the front cover.

If the audience didn’t have access to music then they wouldn’t become interested in particular artists. Therefore we need to consider how our audience accesses their music, whether it is from the internet, social networking sites or music events. Trends on sites such as twitter could be included within the magazine spread to persuade the audience to look further into the artists.

When we design and finally make our magazine spread, we will need to consider what pop music means to their audience, unlike other more specific genres pop music is rather broad and has a large range of emotions and meanings. We want our audience to be able to share music with friends with a light and fun emotion, the colours and design will help to accompany the desired emotion.

Our Typical Target Audience

The target audience for my magazine are male and females aged 14-19, we will not be biased to either gender as we intend to pick a red white and black colour scheme that can be appreciated by both genders.

Typically our target audience will look someone like Joe Anderson (above) he is always found listening to music whether he is doing school work or spending time with friends and family. His music collection will include the newest and latest artists that are mostly from the top 40 charts, these are artists such as Labyrinth, Emily Sande and Rhianna.  His music taste will also include some more unique bands and artists possibly found from YouTube or Facebook. His free time is mostly spent searching for new music and listening to the charts on the radio and most of his spare money is spent on albums and concerts of his favourite artists.

This is a description of our typical target audience and we will use this a base  when developing our magazine, we will try to mould our magazine to fit this description as this will appeal to most people that will be reading our magazine.
